Denalyn + John at Cool Springs House.
Most venues give you one good wall. Cool Springs House gives you a wall that has been standing since 1830 — hand-hewn logs and a stone chimney, out on an open lawn — and Denalyn and John got married in front of it with a white runner laid straight across the grass.
It was a hot September afternoon, so there was a paper fan waiting on every chair. Her bouquet was blue hydrangea and white roses. His rings came out of an Altoids tin. Their vows were handwritten in a notebook. And their black Lab walked down the aisle, sat at the altar through the whole thing, and turns up in the back of the first-kiss frame.
Afterward we took them around to the front porch for portraits — white clapboard, turned posts, a brick walk, bubbles in the air — and then under the trees at the edge of the park while the light went long and gold.
